The sae j403 grade 1010 specification states that the steel may be supplied with carbon content from 0 08 to 0 13 percent. It can be hardened to rockwell 58 hardness making it one of the hardest stainless steels. A higher grade of cutlery steel with more carbon in it which allows for much better edge retention when the steel is heat treated properly. Also known as razor blade steel.
